New Favorite Ceramic Artist

Hello all! My new favorite ceramic artist is Rae Dunn. In the summer issue of Ceramic Monthly it features Rae Dunn . I read about her journey of becoming a ceramic artist and found it inspiring. She stumbled upon ceramics and I am happy she did! Her work is crisp and clean. I like the simplicity of her work and interwoven text in each piece.

Enjoy!

Obsidian Gallery

During spring break I visited Tucson. I know I have already written about the Obsidian Gallery, but there is a new show. The gallery focuses on ceramics and they always seem to get amazing ceramic artists.

I always admire sculptures because I know how much time and energy go into making a three-dimensional portrait.

I love how soft and elegant these portraits are on a thin piece of slab.

These sculptures in person are amazing, the pictures do no justice to the artists incredible talent.

Male Model Mug-A-Thon

Here is my husband modeling my latest line of tea and coffee mugs. Nothing makes a cool morning better than a hot mug filled with goodness.

These amazing mugs are also microwave, dishwasher and food safe.

There's nothing finer than a mug not made in China.

This one of kind mug might just get you that job promotion you always wanted.

Nothing serves up your favorite snacks like my handmade chip and dip platters.

Get yours before there all gone.

Crafting Afternoon at The Budzak's

This past Sunday, December ninth my friend Melissa hosted a fun crafting afternoon at her home. We enjoyed yummy food and then crafted ceramic mugs, containers, and boxes. The ceramic studio was so nice because she opened the garage door and we could enjoy the lovely weather while making beautiful ceramic pieces.
Here is the master teacher Melissa showing Wendy how to build her box.

I decided to make some hand-built mugs. I typically throw mugs at the potter's wheel so this was a little out of my comfort zone.

Thank-you so much to Melissa for hosting a fabulous ceramic crafting afternoon. I had so much fun hanging out and doing something I love.

Upcycled Journals

I bound another ceramic book this week. I love the shape of this one.

I decided to try bookbinding "assembly line" style. I collected up all the paper I wanted to use for this particular type of book, then trimmed and folded the signatures all at once. I figured out that I had enough signatures for seven books, so I sewed and glued them next. Finally I started covering them. I finished covering three last night.

I think I will call these "upcycled" journals. They are made from leftover papers like notepads with only a few pages left, and other random papers that tend to collect in a home office or craft room. I even mixed in a few vintage magazine and book pages for fun. As much as I like a nice clean art paper journal, I find these really unique and a good use of paper that would otherwise go to waste.

Ceramic Book Part II

I completed our second ceramic book this week. This time, I bound it with a more finished look than
the last one. I also tried out some marbled end papers that were actually glued to the cover. I like
how this one turned out, and I'm more and more pleased with the project with each
book that I finish.

You can find our previous posts on this subject HERE and HERE.

Ceramic Book

Sarah and I decided to do a joint project that highlighted both of our crafts. Sarah created
some Ceramic Book Covers and mailed them to me to bind. This week I completed the
first of these "ceramic books."

I used good quality art paper, and each signature is surrounded by some rustic textured paper.

The book is a little heavy, but I envision it as an art piece in a nice library, or sitting on a large
desk with a fancy pen for jotting down all sorts of important things.

I'm looking forward to binding the rest of our ceramic books.

Craft and Folk Art Museum

This past week I got the chance to get out of the heat of Arizona and stay a whole week in California with some good friends and husband. When the weather was not good at the beach we headed to Los Angeles for the day. We visited the Craft and Folk Art Museum on Wilshire Boulevard. It is a small cute fun museum. There was two exhibits on display and a fabulous gift shop. We also had the opportunity to craft with Mark Montano who wrote The Big A** Book of Crafts 1 and 2.Purchase Mark's Book

Ehren Tool: Production or Destruction was a great ceramic show. Ehren Tool creates ceramics pieces to bring awareness to war. On each one of his one of kind pieces he uses images of war to convey his message about war. It was a very powerful exhibit.

The fabulous gift shop had a fabulous employee who told me about her experience with clay. It was nice to talk to her and she recommended a great place to eat called Yuko Kitchen. The gift shop had some nice affordable ceramics.

Etsy Craft Night: Zip Tie Accessories led by Mark Montano was a fun event that we just happened to stumble upon. Mark is a fun teacher and we each made three bracelets to remember are adventure to Los Angeles.
