Miniature Museum

In Tucson there is a little treasure. The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures is so unique. When I was little I use to spend hours playing with my sister's and my dollhouses. My grandmother would make us furniture that fit perfectly in our dollhouses. Visiting this museum brought back many happy memories.

Look what I found at the museum. A mini pottery studio! I love it!

The artist who put this model together paid close attention to the scrap bin of clay, the potter's wheel and the tools.

Back in the Studio 2013

A new year, new work. Hi everyone. I am back in the studio and it feels good to be there. Right before I have to leave to go to the studio I feel the pull of the couch and my Netflix movies/t.v. calling me back to snuggle down, but I push myself out the door and are so much happier. This week I worked on one of my favorite forms, chip and dips. They are fun to make and I was motivated to make a bunch because I owe one to a friend. The studio was warm and welcoming with old faces and new faces to talk and make wonderful pottery. It was a good week in the studio. Enjoy! Sarah

Mug Time

It is finally starting to feel a little like fall. Therefore, I decided to make mugs.

At least at night and early morning I can dring hot tea out of my mugs.

Honey Pots

One of the forms that I have not made in awhile is the honey pot form. This week I made some and had fun making them.

First, you throw a closed form. Add patterns to the outside of the form.

Next, you let the piece dry to leather hard. Next, you cut out the top at an angle, therefore it does not fall in on itself.

Lastly, you use the honey stick to make a dent where the stick will rest inside the container. Make sure to clean up the clay crumbs so there are no rough edges.

Back to the Studio

I'm back in the studio doing my favorite thing, the potter's wheel.

I love escaping into the spinning of the wheel and transforming a mush of clay into something amazing.

I love the texture of the clay and the water gliding over my hands.

Forming something out of nothing is a pretty amazing feeling every time.
